UK regulator Ofgem unveils £22bn infrastructure strategy but who will end up paying for it?

The world looks on thinking, ‘this would never happen in our country’, while India experiences the biggest power outages the planet has ever seen. So it is timely that Ofgem has announced £22 Billion pounds of investment in UK Grid infrastructure, which will hopefully bring over 7,000 new jobs. Lord Mogg, Ofgem’s chairman said, “Britain faces an unprecedented need to invest to replace ageing infrastructure, meet environmental targets and deliver secure supplies.”

The plans have received some criticism though, due to the fact that they will add to household bills at a time when many are struggling to meet rising costs and many are slipping into fuel poverty. More should be done to publicise how beneficial home energy display systems and in premises displays (IPDs) are at sustainable energy saving behavioural change.
